The Christian Association of Nigeria has taken the highly unusual step of refusing to ratify Archbishiop Peter Akinola as its vice president. The association had previously denied Akinola a second term as president. The vote is a setback for Akinola’s allies in the United States and the United Kingdom who portray him as the chief spokesman of African Christianity.
Several studies have noted that scientists, as a group, are much less religious than the general public. Now a survey published in the journal Social Problems finds that this is not the result of scientific training–those who choose science as a career are already less religious before their education.
