Religious rituals teach us to dance with God. For many Episcopalians, the shape of our Sunday rituals changed dramatically with the adoption of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. Holy Communion replaced Morning Prayer as the usual Sunday worship service.
Why, by whatever name and whatever theology, has heaven been such a popular topic lately? First is simple curiosity and the hope that there’s more to our existence than what we experience here.
Our Gospel text this morning has Jesus entering the temple, kicking out the money changers, and generally raising heck. This is not the meek and mild Jesus, little lamb of God, to whom we’ve grown accustomed. It is a muscular and angry Jesus.
