The Cafe is pleased to introduce our new partnership with ‘Priest Pulse.’ Priest Pulse is a podcast that believes the Church is alive, and they’re keeping their finger on the pulse. Priest Pulse is hosted by Father Benjamin Gildas and Fr. Colin Chapman and looks at relevant issues in the Episcopal Church and around the world with prayer, humor, and thoughtfulness.
Jesus rarely really looked back. He strides, and he looks forward (“face set towards Jerusalem”) but never really looks back. Jesus is in no way passive. He is very active – calling out injustice, speaking the truth – cost what it will and lead where it may. And it leads to torture, humiliation and death. Often. And it does for us too if we are courageous enough to be leaders and not sycophants.
At about 1:45 a firefighter came up to me and asked what I thought to be an odd question: Is there going to be a 2 o’clock mass today? I’m sure I looked confused so he repeated his question: Is there going to be a 2 o’clock mass today? The second time around I understood what he was asking and thought to myself: You want a mass here? I was horrified at the thought of a Great Thanksgiving celebrated in Hell and said as much: You want a mass here? Yes, he replied and after a pause, said: You do that don’t you? Well (pause), yes, I do,
Whether it’s the wholeness of our communities or the wholeness of our lives, these stories are hopeful… if somewhat wild… reminders that the whole matters more than the parts.
