The Church Pension Group today rang The Opening Bell® at the New York Stock Exchange in recognition of CPG’s centennial anniversary.
Andrew Sloane was vicar of St. Pauls, Knightbridge in London (and former Rector of St Paul’s, K Street in Washington, DC) when he managed to convince several parishioners to “loan” him thousands of pounds, and then stole another four thousand pounds from collection money. He then used the money to pay for male prostitutes.
The Disciples of Christ have elected Rev. Teresa Hord Owens, an African American, to be their president. Although other mainline protestant denominations, including the Episcopal Church, have elected African American men, Hord Owens will be the first African American woman to lead a mainline protestant denomination on the national level.
