Removal of such monuments, including the Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond, conveys the faith that God loves everyone, everyone, everyone without exception. It is consistent with the vows we make in our Baptismal Covenant when we promise “to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourself” and “to work for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.”
