350 bells for the environment

On October 25, members of St. Paul’s Memorial Church, Charlotteville, VA will ring their church bell 350 times as part of an international campaign called 350.org to urgently call our community to awareness and action in addressing the global climate change crisis.

They invite all churches to participate in this campaign. The Green Team of St. Paul’s offers many suggestions on how to get involved in addressing the climate crisis:

The St. Paul’s Green Team is a standing committee of the Vestry that serves five main roles:

1. Provides a clearinghouse of “greening” ideas and activities

2. Encourages more sustainable practices in our parish life.

3. Forms small working groups to implement new practices and programs.

4. Develops a master plan and an annual plan for Green Team activities.

5. Informs, encourages, and celebrates our changing understanding of stewardship in our parish life.

350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide — measured in “Parts per Million” in our atmosphere. 350 PPM– it’s the number humanity needs to get back to as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change.
