50 Days of Fabulous: reflections for Eastertide

So often the world thinks Easter ends with the last egg hunt on Easter Sunday. Fifty Days of Fab: reflections for Eastertide reminds us to celebrate Easter for the full 50 days. The Rev. Laurie Brock explains how the project started:

I talked with Scott Gunn of Forward Movement about how much energy we as individuals and parishes put into Lent (I was a Celebrity Blogger for Lent Madness, which inspired this website), and then when the Great 50 Days of Easter came, we acted as if, “Oh well.”

I related it to spending 40 days getting ready for the biggest party in creation, and only staying 10 minutes. What a waste! So I pitched to Scott the idea of a website called 50 Days of Fabulous that gives a reflection on Easter for each of the Great Fifty Days. I recruited several of the Lent Madness Celebrity Bloggers and a few other Episcopal writers I know and said, “What fabulous message do you want to share for Easter?”

We have 17 writers, including the Rt. Rev. Doug Hahn, Bishop of Lexington, who kicked the 50 Fabulous days off with his reflection on Easter. Each day includes a reading, which may be some part of scripture, a prayer, words from a hymn, or an image. Then there’s the reflection, and then the response. Easter calls us to do something in response to this witness of Christ’s love for us. The responses have included prayers, calls to dance with wild abandon, opportunities to create a piece of art or simply to reflect.

The Rev. Scott Gunn, Executive Director of Forward Movement, comments:

Forward Movement is delighted to partner with innovators across the

church to encourage discipleship, equip evangelists, and increase joy. We

loved Laurie’s idea, and we hope everyone celebrates every minute of every

one of the fifty days of Easter with reckless abandon and fearless joy.
