The Rev. Janet Broderick will be installed this Thursday as the next Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Morristown, New Jersey, Kevin Coughlin reports in the Morristown Green at nj.com.
We don’t normally find ourselves passing along news of celebrations of new ministry, but Rev. Broderick’s last name is notable — she’s the sister of stage and film actor Matthew Broderick, who will be on hand Thursday to read from Genesis.
These siblings have a good history.
Matthew Broderick remembered [that] Janet was “the only one in the family who liked religion” when they were growing up in New York. She attended temple, he said, and Judaism camp. (Their mother, artist Patricia Broderick, was Jewish.)
And Janet Broderick showed compassion at an early age, making sure to include her brother, who is six years her junior, in activities.
“She was very good to me. She put me on the back of her bicycle and we rode around a lot,” Matthew Broderick said. She became “my main advice-giver.”
