House of Bishops meeting update

The bishops of the Episcopal Church are meeting at Camp Allen, TX. The spring meeting is more of a retreat for bishops.

This year they have Diane Butler Bass and Phyllis Tickle as program leaders. The topic is the future of the church. Saturday they discussed the long awaited and not much new news report on gay and lesbian sexuality and the church from the Theology Committee. They will also elect the bishop suffragan for federal ministries and the bishop of Navajoland Area Mission and hold an election to fill a bishop vacancy on the board of General Theological Seminary.

At least 4 bishops are tweeting the meeting. On Twitter search for @BishopRickel, @TexasBishop, @BrianPrior, @azbishop.

+Kirk Smith of Arizona is blogging the meeting. He includes a photo of himself with Mary Glasspool, one of the newly elected bishop suffragans of Los Angeles:

We started with church, and afterwards I took the opportunity of getting a picture of myself with Mary Glasspool, the newly elected Suffragan Bishop of Los Angeles who is generating controversy, since she is a partnered Lesbian woman. I am her “90 Day Companion” appointed to show her the ropes of being a new bishop. She is a delightful person who will be a great addition to this body.

Also blogging:

+Greg Rickel of Olympia (WA):

[we will spend] two days discussing and learning about the Emerging Church. Karen Ward from our diocese arrived tonight with two musicians from COTA in Fremont. Also Stephanie Spellers from The Crossing in Boston, Tom Brackett from the Church Center Staff, and the two keynoters, Phyllis Tickle and Diana Butler-Bass.
