Real bishops visit virtual cathedral, inspiring virtual bishop’s chair

We have reported here before on efforts of the Anglican Cathedral of Second Life to achieve things like recognition, incorporation, and proper ecclesial oversight.

After last week’s visit from Bishop Tom Brown of Wellington, New Zealand, it was decided to install a bishop’s chair, which will be formally dedicated in services today. Although Bishop Brown preached at the service, the presider was one Helene Milena, whose real-life bishop, Tony Robinson of Pontefract, also showed up to lend support.

This blogger was lucky to be shown the chair in advance by Cady Enoch, who chairs the Cathedral’s Worship Team (“rather like the senior warden,” she told me).

Enoch says:

My hope is that [the Cathedral ministry] continues to grow, and reach out to the residents of Second Life, and enable people to come together to worship God and learn from one another. We have a very vibrant community here, which we are very proud of. People really appreciate the opportunity to worship and fellowship here – for many, this is their only real opportunity to do so.
