Harvey Cox, professor of divinity at Harvard, has just published How to Read the Bible, a primer illustrating the questions and context Bible readers should consider.
Cox focuses on literary, history, and activism as three lenses we can view the Bible through, providing examples of each in specific books. Cox explores some of these examples in detail on Religion for Life, in a 30 minute interview by John Shuck, who asks Cox to defend the relevance of the Bible in a contemporary context of people who don’t identify as religious.
You can listen to the podcast (No transcript available yet). Jonathan Merritt, at Religion News Service, interviewed Cox as well; you can read their conversation at RNS.
What do you think? Will you read How to Read the Bible? Have you read other books which helped you to understand the Bible in a deeper way?
