Aeon original video on Stoicism and death with philosopher Massimo Pigliucci

Massimo Pigliucci, Professor of Philosophy at CUNY-City College, speaks about Stoicism and death in an original video for Aeon magazine.

Pigliucci explains that suicide was considered permissible in certain circumstances, relating it to modern advocacy for right to death legislation, noting that Zeno, the founder of Stoicism, took his own life after years of debilitating illness. He describes this acknowledgement of death as a contrast to life as a part of living virtuously; it provides perspective and a choice, in the same way that eschewing comfort can remind us of the joys and pleasure of a more comfortable existence.

You can watch the video on Aeon (5 minutes, no transcript available).
