Today’s Readings for the Daily Office:

Before the week is out, we’ll hear today’s psalm again. Eight verses of it will be our psalm for Sunday morning, sung or said during worship. Another half-verse will appear in the gospel reading as the last words spoken by Jesus. These words were so close to Jesus and to the author of the gospel of Luke that they were woven into that account of the crucifixion: “Into your hands I commend my spirit.”
They are certainly words to cling to, whether at the beginning of our day or at the end of all our days: “Into your hands I commend my spirit.” These words are a proclamation of faith, phrased as an expression of deep trust.
Each day, we fall into the hands of God. Before a week has passed us by, Jesus will say these words from the cross, showing us how to offer our lives generously and lovingly. Listen for it.
