Witnessing the recent events in Louisiana, Minnesota, and Dallas, Texas, has made it increasingly difficult for justice-seeking Americans to hold on to their precepts of love and respect for all. While some of us have had our faith shaken in the dream of the eventual prevalence of love being the inevitable answer to the search for peace on Earth among its inhabitants, we are yet committed to persevere, to hold fast to our belief that there is more that unites us than there is that divides us.
Recently, we found ourselves in conversation with a group of people working on organizing an event for July 17, the day before the official start of the Republican National Convention here in Cleveland. The event, called “Circle the City with Love,” will bring several thousand people together to hold hands in intentional silence for 30 minutes before the RNC starts.
The idea is to stand together to embody the power of love that can bring peace and justice to our city, our country and our world. It is also a way for Clevelanders to showcase who we are and how we welcome visitors to our town.
