The next few days are newsworthy, to be sure, what with a presidential inauguration, Saturday’s National Cathedral service and women’s marches taking place in Washington, D.C. and communities across the country.
For those of us who would like to think about something other than politics for the weekend, we’re suggesting several noteworthy, if perhaps not newsworthy, commemorations this weekend.
Friday, widely known as Inauguration Day, is also National Cheese Lover’s Day. “Don’t feel bleu,” say the writers of the National Day Calendar site (which also points out, following a brief history of cheese, that March 5 is National Cheese Doodle Day, April 12 is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day and July 30 is National Cheesecake Day.
We were particularly pleased to see that Saturday, January 21 is Squirrel Appreciation Day (it’s also National Granola Bar Day, which seems an appropriate pairing).
And in a bit of good timing, January 21, the day after the inauguration, is also National Hugging Day. Reach out and tell someone you love them, no matter their politics.
