A Prayer for the Beginning of Advent

Advent meet us in the long nights.

The darkness comes quicker now.

The days growing shorter, the nights longer.

We’re waiting for the light to come.

Open our eyes to see you in the darkness;

The darkness of our souls, hearts, and minds.

Open our spirits so that we may learn from the restlessness.

Help us to lean into our doubts and fears.

Lead us to the light

Be our guide into its mystery.

Help us to sit in your Word

To meet our neighbors

To feast with family and friends

To light candles

To sing hymns

To love deeper

To welcome the stranger

Lead us to the light.

We’re waiting to hear you, Lord.

A soft whisper

A gentle touch

A hopeful spirit

Coming to meet us.

Lead us to the light.

We’re waiting to see you, Lord.

In the awe of a mother and father

In the chorus of angels

In the greetings of shepherds and kings

In the cry of a baby

Waiting to be born.

Come, wait in us.
