A Psalm for the New School Year

A Psalm for the New School Year  (Based on Psalm 20)

May the Lord answer us when we are heavy with worry;

may the name of the Lord, the Holy One, surround us.

May the Lord send teachers who welcome, and teach with mercy and grace.

May the Lord remember the children: the ones worried about making friends, the ones who need extra help, the ones new to school.

May the Lord grant them peace.

May the Lord give us communities and neighbors full of love and compassion.

May we shout for joy at learning, meals shared, and friends made.

May the Lord grant all our requests.

Now this we know:
The Lord gives peace.

The Lord answers cries for help, and holds near those who live in fear.

The Lord grants wisdom and celebrates communities caring for children.

The Lord walks with us:

in our streets, along country roads,

in our classrooms, down hallways,

on playgrounds, and on the fields.

Lord, keep our schools safe.

Answer us when we call.
