The sun’s rays last late into the day as fireflies show us their musical dance,
a summer’s day is meant to be savored,
like a long, cool sip of lemonade.
So, too, are the travels we take this season,
whether by road or air, alone or in a group.
Wherever we go, be with us, Lord.
Open our eyes to the beauty of your creation,
teach us to marvel at the cricket’s nighttime music,
and the hummingbird’s beating wings.
In airports, along state highways, or high above the clouds, may our response be words of awe and
praise: How marvelous is your creation, Lord.
Open our eyes to the neighbors we meet,
may we linger over coffee and stories,
our hearts in tune with the needs of others.
Help us to offer “Hello” and “How are you?”
with listening ears.
When our plans turn upside down and we aren’t sure which way to go,
grant us patience and a humble heart.
When we are late or lost, tired or frustrated, breathe your spirit into us.
The world has much to teach us,
of kindness and compassion,
reaching out to others and helping friends in need.
Of looking out to the vastness of the ocean,
or the top of a mountain, and hearing your voice: Be still, and know that I am God.
Go with us, Lord, wherever we go and in whatever we find.
Teach us, inspire us.
Return us home safely, changed by your love,
and touched by the goodness of your creation.
