After nine year journey the Reformed Church in America ordains the “first” openly gay man

The Revd Chad Tanaka Pack shares his own story of the long road to ordination as a minister of word & sacrament in the Reformed Church in America. He was previously associated with Middle Collegiate Church and is now on the staff of Marble Collegiate Church, both NYC congregations of the Reformed Church in America. He was ordained yesterday, Sunday, 15 JAN 2017, starting at 4 pm at Middle Collegiate Church. He is married to the Revd Michael Foley.

UPDATE – Some commenters believe that Chad was not the first, that others have been ordained in the RCA before him. In trying to determine why folks at Middle Church believe he is a first, it was said that he is the first who has been honest about being gay from the start, which is why it has taken 9 years to reach ordination. It’s a milestone for Chad, regardless of what sort of first it was. – ed
