Anglican Church in Burundi planting a tree for each member of the population

The Province of Burundi has set the goal of planting “One Person, One Tree” in the next five years, totaling about 10 million trees. With the support of Episcopal Relief and Development, they hope to plant the first million trees in the next year. Burundi has been losing an estimated 9% of its forests each year to overpopulation and the ensuing clearing of woodland for space, with devastating environmental consequences. The church’s project hopes to reverse this process.
