Priest jailed after climate-change protest (UK) – Church Times
AN ANGLICAN priest has been imprisoned for contempt, and a second faces a police investigation, after they glued themselves to courtroom furniture during hearings arising from an Extinction Rebellion protest.
The Revd Tim Hewes, aged 70, was sentenced at the City of London Magistrates Court last Friday to 14 days in prison, after protesting at what he described as the court’s complicity with the Government’s lack of action on the climate emergency.
The previous day, the Revd Sue Parfitt, aged 79, was arrested when she staged a similar protest.
The three archbishops – representing Tikanga Pākehā, Tikanga Māori and Tikanga Pasifika, the three equal houses of the Church – have made a formal apology to survivors at the Royal Commission into Abuse in Care.

“Our attention has been directed to the current controversy on the use of hijab in Christian Missionary schools in Kwara and the attendant complications and conflicts,” the statement read in part. “We believe that the greatest need of any society is peace and harmony, especially in a state christened as the State of Harmony and where this is compromised, it’s a dangerous trend.
“The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Kwara State, held several consultations with the state government and subsequently made the position of the owners of the Christian schools known in very clear and unambiguous terms.
“We absolutely align with the position of CAN and restate that we do not allow the use of hijab in our schools, as it negates our belief and doctrinal principles, on which the schools were founded in the first place.
