Anglican vs. Catholic: Keeping score

It was a year ago that the Church of England declared victory over the Vatican – on the cricket field, that is. The Vatican VI have invited the CofE team to Rome for a re-match, which will take place on October 25 following the final mass at the Synod on Family.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has already tweeted the team picture (see above). From the Archbishop’s website:

Last year’s match, which raised money for the Global Freedom Network against modern slavery and human trafficking, saw the Archbishop’s XI lift the trophy after beating the Vatican side by six wickets with five balls to spare.

As reported in the Episcopal New Service,

“The cricket will be fun and a strong symbolism of our ecumenical ties,” the C of E Captain, the Revd Steve Gray, said, adding: “though we will of course do our best to emerge victorious again.”
