What might the church of the future look like? I have an idea. It has to do with bread and alfalfa, clay and earth. People and food and music and a park.
You may feel that the pledge or gift is “in” and that the whole, long process of cultivating and then asking for the gift is over; but you are wrong. In a way, it has only just begun.
Anesthetizing my pain with busy-ness means I do not FEEL my pain or FACE my demons. But both lay waiting for me.
The key to raising major gifts is to avoid standing over, beneath or against your donor and instead, stand WITH your donor.
Day after day I write to raise money and there is one word I use with the greatest of care when writing about raising money in our churches and our social profit agencies. It is a very important word and one I now commend to you. A gift of sorts.
