The FDL Reporter notes that Presiding Bishop Michael Curry is coming to Wisconsin as part of the Way of Love series of revivals this weekend.
Imagine the power of love.
This is what Episcopal Church’s Presiding Bishop Michael Curry asked guests at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle to do as he gave the sermon at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May 2018.
On Sunday, he will continue to preach its power as he celebrates Sunday service at Fond du Lac’s Cathedral Church of St. Paul.
The cathedral’s dean, The Very Rev. C. Patrick Perkins, says about Bishop Curry:
“This is a man who loves to preach and when he steps out to preach he gives everything he has with a great amount of energy,” he said. “He’s has the best of wonderful delivery with a keen theological mind and an extremely warm heart. He’s a man who’s able to sit down at table with people of all sorts of different opinions and honor them without losing himself.”
The article goes on to describe the cathedral itself as a place which is also undergoing its own revival.
The visit comes as the Fond du Lac cathedral, too, is working on its own revival. For more than a year, the cathedral has been working to return to its status of not only a place for its congregation, but community members — religious and non-religious.
Growing up Muslim in Turkey, [Dean] Perkins’ wife, Rev. Ezgi Saribay Perkins, held a program on Islam to educate people on the religion and help those who may have negative perceptions of all who practice Islam change their perception. Recently, the church hosted a “Blue Evensong” program which invited people to take part in a non-denominational prayer for the safety those who serve the community, he said.
“We’ve tried to do things that speak to the broader community with no expectation that the people who come are going to join our congregation,” he said. “We’re simply trying to be a place in the community where conversations can happen, a place in the community where we can gather, we can talk, and we can pray. We see that as part of our responsibility to offer ourselves that way.”
