The on-air and online radio program Day1 includes a commentary by former Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori in its Faith and Science in the 21st Century series. In a four-minute video, which aired in October and is now online, she explores the idea that our repeated and often conflicted re-framing of our understanding of creation (Galileo being one historic example), is part of our journey of faith:
…that reframing is one aspect of repentance, turning toward God as the center of existence, rather than ourselves and our necessarily limited understandings. It’s also part of the history of God’s ongoing relationship with humanity recorded in the Bible. We see it in Jesus,’ and later his followers’, growing understanding that his message is for all people, Gentiles as well as Jews.
