From the Diocese of Ohio:
Thursday, May 7, was the opening of the Domestic Partner Registry in Cleveland. The registry allows unmarried couples, whether gay or straight, to register their partnerships with the city. Although the registry does not carry the weight of law, and it may or may not indicate that those registered are entitled to share any of the benefits of marriage, it is a recognition of committed relationships and a first, powerful step in the direction of full inclusion. Bishop Hollingsworth spoke that evening at an interfaith service of thanksgiving at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Cleveland. Read his remarks here.
Hollingsworth concluded:
This is an eye-opening day in Cleveland. May our new sight be filled with the challenges of justice that lie before us, and a vision of a land where everyone counts and is counted as God’s beloved.
Amen.
