Bishop Charles Vaché, the former bishop of Southern Virginia died over the weekend. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace and rise in glory at the last.

The Rt. Rev. C. Charles Vaché, the 7th Bishop of Southern Virginia, died at 2:30 a.m. on the Feast of All Saints in hospice care at Westminster Canterbury in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Bishop Vaché was elected and consecrated Bishop Coadjutor of Southern Virginia in 1976 while serving as the Rector of Trinity Church in Portsmouth. He was installed as our 7th Bishop in April 1978 five times around the Diocese when the Rt. Rev. David C. Rose retired. Each installation service was followed by a “Grassroots” workshop to focus attention on the ministry that was to follow. He retired in 1991 and was succeeded as Diocesan by the Rt. Rev. Frank H. Vest, Jr.
Following his “retirement”, he served as Dean of St. George’s College in Jerusalem, Assisting Bishop in East Carolina and West Virginia and Interim Rector of Bruton Parish in Williamsburg and the Church of the Good Shepherd Norfolk.
