Bishops extend non-discrimination canons

The House of Bishops voted today to include transgender and gender identity to non-discrimination canons for laity and clergy D019 and D002 The legislation now moves to the House of Deputies.

The deputies passed legislation similar to that adopted today by the bishops by a two-thirds vote in 2009, but the legislation was amended by the bishops in a way that deputies could not accept, and therefore died.

The Chicago Consultation live tweeted the bishops’ debate/
