A Prayer for the Day
O Lord, it’s been a day, already. And I haven’t even gotten out of bed.

O Lord, it’s been a day, already. And I haven’t even gotten out of bed.

The world is full of inadvertent pilgrims. Millions fleeing the wars in the Middle East and Africa. Others forced to seek new places escaping fire, flood, starvation, pestilence, and enemies.

Dear friends, we can’t let these little trials beat the love out of us. When you feel the hostility rise, and the blanket of being right enfolds you, ask yourself this? What kind of person am I becoming? Who will I be when this is all over?

One person, one action, one small deed of kindness, one check, one thank you, one smile like all little things, can join together to become a big thing, and the big thing can change the world.

Paul reminds us that in the Body of Christ, no part is expendable. Every part–from head to foot, has a function, and the function of the body as a whole is to praise God. Yet that body–marvelous as it is–can always use another part–us.

I dare an open moment, an expectant silence. I dare to believe that I matter, that God has many things that God would say to me. I dare to believe that God yearns to say them.

…at those moments of connecting with nature, feeling a sense of communion with the “dirt clod” natural world around us, the ego sometimes falls away, and we get a taste of the freedom Paul experienced and Jesus exemplified.

And then there are those mornings when it feels like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Those days when no one else can see what you’re carrying deep inside.

In this time of every day soul gutting news, can we still see ourselves as One Body, One Cup?

What about you? Has there been a time when your harsh words felt warm and right in the moment but turned out to be just another turn in the cycle of violence?
