I know that my relationship with God is the center, the core of my life, and that it fully satisfies me. But that does not keep me from getting all tangled up in other passions, intrigues and terrors.

The teaching on that is that a lot of shepherds walked past that particular bush that day. Moses is the only one who noticed that it was special, that it was not consumed by the fire. So, Moses stopped and he decided to take a look at the bush.

Whether it’s the orthodox “Jesus prayer” with or without beads, or repetitive prayers such as those one can say with a set of Anglican prayer beads, people who engage in repetitive prayer practices often describe a sensation of their mind disengaging from the stress.

Listening well helps me learn a stranger’s personal language. I learn their joys, what they are stumped by, what moves them. The stories are magnificent; they are jewels. Christ is right there in the middle of them.

How often do you talk to people- friends, neighbors, your communities, strangers- about your faith? When was the last time you told someone the story of your faith?

Jesus did not say “Go out and change the world!” He said, “Be transformed.”

Prayer, like a good pickle, adds texture and flavor to life, and offers us a chance to balance a life of busy-ness with a bit of tang or even sweetness.

Sometimes it is easy to assume that because someone is a stay-at-home or because they can’t do as much as they used to, that somehow they are completely useless.
