What does it take for the yeast in our lives to create an out-of-control oozing lump?
When Jesus was overwhelmed, he didn’t withdraw completely from his fellow human beings. Instead, he drew a line between the crowds who needed him to meet their needs, and the companions who knew how to simply be with him.

We are a desiring people. There is passion, preference, yearning in our own hearts, and in the divine heart too.

The feeling of the nation must be quickened; the conscience of the nation must be roused; the propriety of the nation must be startled; the hypocrisy of the nation must be exposed; and its crimes against God and man must be denounced.
Think of today’s gospel as an invitation to a dinner party with Jesus at Levi’s house. (And not a stuffy one.)
