Two Women
“‘Why is he talking to her?’
they must have thought.
‘Does he not hear Jairus
begging, pleading, bargaining?
Does he not know who he is?'”
“‘Why is he talking to her?’
they must have thought.
‘Does he not hear Jairus
begging, pleading, bargaining?
Does he not know who he is?'”
“For…one must rise before the sun to give you thanks,
for the hope of an ungrateful person will melt like wintry frost…”
“In the gloaming of the glistening fields
waiting for the embrace the evening
lead us into deeper faithfulness, O God,
as the Earth turn her face toward night.”
A danger recognized is not always a danger avoided, but it at least gives us half a chance to remember that our highest goal is not the pursuit of happiness but the discovery of the grace and mercy and loving-kindness, the grounding of God.
“…eventually arriving home again, but with new eyes to see.”
“While many of us are eager to discover a new normal, we all need to remember that a higher percentage of our neighbors than we have seen in decades are struggling to simply survive the corona “recession”. A higher percentage of our neighbors are struggling everyday to keep their families fed, housed and their children’s educational opportunities secure.”
“But, more than that, in the moments of life as they tick over, God has simply shown me God’s presence. In the Way of Love of Bishop Curry, he calls it ‘Turning.’ God infuses the world, and at every second we have the opportunity of noticing God, turning to God.”
“James and Philip travelled with Jesus throughout his ministry. Yet even some of the closest disciples to Jesus, like Peter, still did not appreciate the fullness of the message. Was their faith shallow? Was Jesus trying to teach nuclear physics when the disciples could not pass simple addition and subtraction?”
“For the past several weeks of Easter in Year B of the Revised Common Lectionary, readings from the First Letter of John have emphasized that the greatest way the world will come to know Christ will be by how we Christians act. Our actions, especially as those who “wear” the name of Christ, will be the only testimony much of the world will have as to who Jesus is.”
“I am not sure we are out of the dark tunnel of this year, but I feel our collective chins lifting. We continue to walk together. The circle of light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger with springtime, vaccinations, and accountability. The darkness is yielding, and the shadows are lifting.”
