We prayed because prayer is what had been asked of us. We met with mission partners –people engaged in relief work with thousands of asylum-seekers each week – and when we asked them what we could do, their first response was almost always, “please pray for us.”
Christians have no monopoly on Truth. And yet we do have a true testimony to the One who is the Truth. For us, the Truth is not a rule book, nor a set of true doctrines, but a Person.
Is not this life a marbled rye of light and darkness? Of grace and evils. Of friendships and betrayals? Of kindnesses and of cruelties?
angels—angels!—are always at the most precarious places of life.
Jesus calls us to be part of a new community that follows God’s ways of love and puts them into practice. Each of us is a means of grace for all the other people God puts into our lives.
We steep in the flow of life-force and the life-force flows through us
May we all have patience, health, and opportunities to make sense of our failures.
But vestments mean more than looking pretty, don’t they? The beauty of our worship is meant to invite us to share in the beauty of God. As the Psalm says, we are to “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”
Good leadership can frequently save a sinking ship. The church is the ark of our salvation. Sadly, that ark gives every sign of sinking. Let’s scrape off the barnacles and fix systemic problems.
I am convinced that we are all exiles (one way or another). And so, we need GOD to show us the Way home.
