The Rt Revd Michael Curry, bishop diocesan of the Diocese of North Carolina has been elected by the House of Bishops to be the next Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. The House of Deputies has confirmed the election. +Michael will be the first African American Presiding Bishop.

Yesterday President Barack Obama attended the funeral service of the slain pastor of Emanuel AME Church in Charleston SC, the Revd Clementa Pinckney. He delivered the Revd Pickney’s eulogy. The president’s message lasted a little over three minutes. In conclusion the president lead the congregation in a verse of Amazing Grace.

Integrity is reporting that The House of Deputies committee considering proposed changes to the marriage canon have clarified that arguments suggesting that General Convention cannot make such changes because they run counter to the Book of Common Prayer are based on “flawed premises.”
