Grant Blankenship for Georgia Public Broadcasting interviewed Anthony Ponder, who became a barber like his deceased father, who was murdered when he was 7 year old. Ponder has also been incarcerated many times. He lost all of his barber gear in his most recent incarceration, and wasn’t sure how he’d earn his living upon release.
Fortunately, Centenary Community Ministries and Centenary Church of Macon, GA, were able to step in. The groups run a successful program that helps men transition from homelessness. They offered to donate the tools to Ponder, if he could volunteer his services for their mission.
Mr. Ponder had wanted to volunteer for the program before his arrest.
From the interview:
“Mr. Eric approached me and asked if I still wanted to volunteer and cut hair. I had asked him that before I went to prison when I had my own stuff.”
Macon.com has a video and story, and the interview and audio are available at Medium.
