Sunday school teachers, Christian education directors and specialists, seminary professors, publishers, Episcopal Church Center leadership, publishers and bishops came to the 14th annual “Tapestry” conference this year.

In the largest and most diverse gathering of Episcopal Educators since the 2006 “Wrestling with the Big Questions” conference, the National Association for Episcopal Christian Education Directors (NAECED) convened its 14th annual “Tapestry” conference in Charlotte, North Carolina beginning on Thursday February 3.

“The five marks of mission—proclaiming, teaching, responding to needs, transforming structures and safeguarding theintegrity of creation—undergird and empower our ministries,” says outgoing NAECED board member Julia McCray-Goldsmith, from the Diocese of California.“We cannot be the courageous church God longs for without mature Christian disciples capable of interpreting the times in light of our tradition. Children and adults, lay and clergy… we are all called to learn and to lead.”

NAECED, the largest voluntary professional organization in theEpiscopal Church, has been moving from strength to strength. In an economic climate wherein Christian education positions are being eliminated in many congregations, educators continue to join NAECED—now more than 350 dues-paying members— for the empowering mixture of fellowship, continuing education and resource-sharing. Newly elected NAECED officers include The Rev. Lisa C. Flores (Diocese of West Tennessee), President; Jenifer Gamber (Diocese of Bethlehem), Vice-President; Jeff Harre (Diocese of Connecticut) New board members include Emily Given (Diocese of Dallas), Andrew Kellnor (Diocese ofPennsylvannia), and Lyle SmithGraybeal (Diocese of Colorado).
