Mt Airy (basis for the fictional Mayberry) gets creative with faith communities. Montgomery News reports:
There are two Northwest venues where one will find people of different faiths or no faith gathering under one roof.
The first, the Grace Epiphany Episcopal Church’s campus, now houses the Mount Airy Performing Arts Center where a diverse array of students are welcome. Then a few blocks away, also in West Mount Airy, the Point of Destination Café, 6460 Greene St. on the ground level of the Upsal Street SEPTA train station, hosts interfaith groups like Pennsylvania Power & Light discussing topics like climate change and social justice.
Grace Epiphany and the Arts Center find mutual benefit in sharing space. The church’s income stream benefits and the Arts Center expands:
“So during the past six to eight months, I began looking for a larger space. We just lucked out with the Grace Epiphany Church. It is just a beautiful campus. We are now able to expand our program to include adult classes in ballet, belly dancing and tap. We have space to teach yoga and Pilates. Of course we have enough space for the 90 students who participate in our children’s program,” Williams said.

NOTE: thanks to our readers – we now know there are at least 2 Mt. Airys.
