As people across the country participate in the ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge”, some Episcopalians are getting into the act. At 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21st,, the bishop of West Tennessee and a group of clergy from the Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee gathered downtown on the steps of St. Mary’s Cathedral to dump water over their heads in support of the ALS Association’s ice bucket campaign.
The Reverend Hester Mathes, Curate of Holy Communion in Memphis, issued the challenge, and participants included the Rt. Reverend Don E. Johnson, bishop of the diocese; the Reverend Sandy Webb, priest in charge at Church of the Holy Communion; the Reverend Randy McCloy, deacon at Holy Communion; the Reverend Christopher Girata, rector of Calvary Episcopal; and the Reverend Audrey Gonzales, deacon at Calvary.
