Episcopal Public Policy Network starts “story drive”

From EPPN:

In past years this has been the time when the EPPN held a membership drive. This year we are doing something new. We are having a STORY DRIVE!

What is a STORY DRIVE? It is a time to collect stories about all of the interesting ways that Episcopalians are involved in public policy advocacy. These stories could be about big life changing actions, seemingly small moments, or anything in between.

From EPPN:

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” — Acts 5:31

Like the disciples who went out and spread the good news after the Holy Spirit’s anointing, we celebrate our renewal of purpose, mission, and calling as God’s people during this season after Pentecost.

You might think about:

• Sharing how your church held a public forum on domestic violence in your community.

• A time that you explained to a friend why your concern for HIV/AIDS and malaria made you an advocate for the MDGs.

• Telling how learning about global warming resulted in your church using ceramic mugs, not styrofoam, and your using bags from recycled materials, not paper or plastic.

• All of our talents and experiences are different – share yours with other Episcopalians!

You can see some stories that people have already posted, here.

You can also take part in this summer’s STORY DRIVE joining the conversation by commenting on other people’s stories – notes of encouragement, ideas related to someone’s story, or even a simple “thank you for sharing.” Everyone can take part in this summer’s STORY DRIVE!

Invite your friends, family, and fellow Episcopalians to share their stories as well.

As in past years there will be prizes – but this year we will be holding a drawing. For each story you submit, you will get 2 entries in the drawing. For each comment you submit, you will get one entry in the drawing. At the end of the summer, we’ll have a drawing for these great prizes:

Two Grand Prizes

A Flip Video Camera (maybe we can persuade you to send in a video to the EPPN?)

and A Book of Common Prayer inscribed by the Presiding Bishop

3 Runner-up Prizes

A Book of Common Prayer inscribed by the Presiding Bishop

During the summer, watch for your EPPN Action Alerts and Newsletters which will highlight some of the great stories that EPPN members have submitted.

Advocacy takes place every day in everyday ways. Share your story with us!
