During the recent presidential tour, Melania Trump visited with children in Bambina Gesù hospital. She spent time coloring and chatting with the kids in Italian, signing casts, and taking selfies. She described the visit as “very moving.” Trump added, “To spend time speaking to and coloring with children who have such a positive spirit despite illness was an amazing gift.” Prior to the visit, she had written to the Pope, requesting permission to visit the hospital. When they reached Belgium, the First Lady learned that a child she had spoken to at the hospital had received the heart transplant he’d been waiting for, and she tweeted “A little boy who I visited today & had been waiting for a heart transplant will be receiving one! #Blessings #Faith”

Bambina Gesù Children’s Hospital is the largest pediatric research and care center in Europe, founded in 1869 by the Catholic Church.
