Former Nixon chief of staff nominated as bishop coadjutor for Dio Los Angeles

We previously reported the five nominees for bishop coadjutor chosen by the diocesan Bishop Coadjutor Search Committee for the Diocese of Los Angeles. On 3 OCT, the Standing Committee for the diocese announced an additional candidate by petition to the slate. The additional candidate is the Revd Canon John Taylor, full-time vicar of St. John Chrysostom Church and School in Rancho Santa Margarita CA. The Revd Taylor was nominated by a process previously approved and announced by the Bishop Coadjutor Search Committee.

Canon Taylor, who is 62, has held his position as vicar at St John Chrysostom since 2004. He was the executive director of the Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library from 1990 until 2007, at first when the library was privately owned and later after it became part of the federal presidential libraries. He had been former president Richard Nixon’s post-resignation chief of staff  from 1990 until Nixon’s death in 1994. Taylor was ordained to the priesthood by the Rt Revd Jon Bruno in 2004 after attending the Episcopal Theological School at Claremont in Claremont CA.

The other candidates for bishop coadjutor are: the Revd Paul Fromberg, rector of St. Gregory of Nyssa, San Francisco; the Revd Rachel Nyback, rector of St. Cross, Hermosa Beach, Calif.; the Revd Anna Olson, rector of St. Mary’s, (Mariposa Avenue) Los Angeles; the Rt. Revd Pierre Whalon, bishop of the Paris-based Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe; and the Revd Mauricio Wilson, rector of St. Paul’s, Oakland, Calif. All six candidates will be meeting with members of the diocese in a series of scheduled forums this weekend;

  • Orange County: Friday, October 7, 6 – 9 p.m., St. George’s Episcopal Church, 23802 Avenida de la Carlota, Laguna Hills;
