General Seminary elects new Chair of Board of Trustees

General Theological Seminary announces the election of a new Chair of the Board of Trustees.

At its regular February meeting, the Board of Trustees of The General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church affirmed the seminary’s Way of Wisdom and Wisdom Year as a creative and effective response to the needs of the 21st century Episcopal Church. It also discussed how to advance the core programming to effectively implement the Wisdom curriculum and formation. At the next regular meeting in May, the Board has expanded its meeting time to continue the work to develop the Way of Wisdom.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Rt. Rev. Mark S. Sisk retired as Chairman of the Board. As a recognition of extensive service, the Board presented him with an ERD cow for a village, a framed 1889 engraving of seminary buildings, and a facsimile of a permanent bronze plaque celebrating Bishop Sisk’s almost-50 years of close affiliation with General Seminary to be placed in the Tower Room. The Rt. Rev Clifton Daniel, Bishop of Pennsylvania, was unanimously elected Chair.

Bishop Daniel wrote the following in October:

I call now for a season of self-examination and repentance as our General Theological Seminary (GTS) community seeks the guidance of Jesus to lead us toward fulfilling his will for this seminary in the current difficult moment.

I am hopeful that the Executive Committee and Board’s invitation to the Faculty to a return to the prior status through the remainder of this academic year will be received in a positive way and that the faculty assume their prior positions.
