The Rt Revd Fanuel Emmanuel Magangani is excited that members of his diocese will now have the New Testament in their own language.
Now each tribe has a Bible in their own language. We praise God for the work the Bible Society is doing in Malawi to enable people hear God speaking to them in their own language. It’s like the day of Pentecost that we now hear the word of God in every language of the people in Malawi.
Bishop Magangani is the diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Northern Malawi in the Church of the Province of Central Africa, a member province of the Anglican Communion. The recently completed translation began in 2004 and is the joint work of the Bible Society of Malawi and the Word for the World International. The project leaders hope to complete the Old Testament sometime in 2018. The Bible is being translated into chiLambaya, a language spoken by Ndali, Banyika, BaMambwe, BaNamwanga and BaBandya across northern Malawi, south Tanzania and western Zambia.
