Reagan Lee’s boyfriend, Garrett Chisum (18), had given her his personal Bible when she was having a hard time. He had underlined their favorite verse before doing so. Later, when the Georgia teen asked Garrett what he wanted for Christmas, it was a simple request, he wanted a new Bible. And there began a three-month labor of love.
Reagan (16) bought a new Bible and then spent the next three months pouring her heart & soul into amplifying each page with illustrations and personalized study material & thoughts. She knew that Garrett would appreciate a new Bible, but that he would cherish it even more if she customized it for him. She highlighted verses and used the margins for little illustrations and personal messages.
Pleased with her work and wishing to share with her circle of friends that she and Garrett had a happy relationship, Reagan posted photos of the Bible to her Twitter account. But the posting went viral. over the next 5 days over 280,000 folks had viewed her illustrated bible and “liked” the post. Many people thought that what she had accomplished was beautiful. She did get some negative feedback. Mostly it was folks who didn’t like the idea that she had marked up a Bible. But most important was that Garrett loved it.
