The process of amendments continues: Charlie Holt offers an amendment. on line 22 add a ; “and be it further (delete the rest of line 22 through 27) and in line 30 delete the phrase “are part of such relationships.

This is an attempt to get rid of some of the language in here:

Resolved, That this the 76th General Convention affirm the value of “listening to the experience of homosexual persons,” as called for by the Lambeth Conferences of 1978, 1988, and 1998, and acknowledge that through our own listening the General Convention has come to recognize that the baptized membership of The Episcopal Church includes same-sex couples living in lifelong committed relationships “characterized by fidelity, monogamy, mutual affection and respect, careful, honest communication, and the holy love which enables those in such relationships to see in each other the image of God” (2000-D039); and be it further

Resolved, That this the 76th General Convention recognize that individuals gay and lesbian persons who are part of such relationships have responded to God’s call and have exercised various ministries in and on behalf of God’s One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church over the centuries and are currently doing so in our midst, often without the church’s recognition of their lifelong committed relationships and the blessings bestowed by such relationships; and be it further

Ruth Meyers of Chicago: says CHolt’s amendment deletes language that describes a realty in this church. Also says he is deleting lingo we first passed nine years ago. She urges the defeat of the amendment.

Deputy Ross of Michigan: says the resolution was very carefully crafted. Don’t tinker with the craft.

Clerical Deputy Thomas of San Diego speaks against the amendment. “In essence it guts what he committee tried so hard to do.” “This is the reality of our Church and we need to go forward as we are.

Lee Crawford of Vermont: my partner and I have been members of this house for four conventions and involved in world mission. She is a missionary in El Salvador. Her sexuality isn’t an issue for them. Defeat the amendment.

Nancy Key of San Joaquin: defeat the amendment. Invokes the the baptismal covenant. How can we accept less that full inclusion.

Time to vote on the amendment. It fails overwhelmingly.

Russ Palmore of Virginia asks for a vote on giving 10 more minutes for amendments It sure sounded like the vote failed, especially since it requires a 2/3 majority. But Prez Anderson is being careful, so she is asking for an electronic vote. The technology isn’t working, so we are going to count hands.

While we are waiting on this vote, there has been another motion to divide. I don’t have the substance of the division, but I will get it if it succeeds.Which I don’t think it will

Fails by a substantial margin.

Michael Russell calls the question. President Anderson invites chaplain Frank Wade to pray.

The deputies are voting on the main motion. D025 will go up or down in the next couple of minutes. I will file a bulletin when the result is announced. So the result won’t appear first on this post but on a fresh one. Although I will come back eventually and tack it on.
