London Occupiers should be evicted from St. Paul’s, judge rules

From BBC, word that the City of London has successfully litigated in High Court to force eviction of Occupy London protesters from the grounds of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The demonstrators, who are campaigning against corporate greed, have been occupying the central London site since 15 October.

The corporation sought a possession order after the Occupy London group ignored an order to clear its tents from the public highway.

Occupy London will appeal in the Court of Appeal on Thursday.

The Guardian quotes an attorney who worked on a related case – the eviction of protesters in Parliament Square.

The eviction of the Occupy London protesters from outside St Paul’s Cathedral has always been inevitable. Increasingly legally savvy protesters have been able to play the system in various ways to delay today’s verdict but it has ultimately just been a matter of time before the City of London Corporation succeeded.
