In advance of its fourth modern meeting next month in Melbourne, The Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions has selected Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid to be its next chair starting January 1, 2010.
According to a Council release,
Imam Mujahid is former chair of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, and has written extensively on religion, public policy and applied aspects of Islamic living. Imam Mujahid has initiated a joint campaign between American Muslims and the National Organization of Women to declare rape a war crime.
The first Parliament, held in 1893 at the Chicago World’s Fair, is regarded as the beginning of interreligious dialogue.
