Pasadena church celebrates the Dodgers

All Saints’ Church in Pasadena, CA, encouraged congregants to wear “Dodger Blue” to church on Sunday in celebration of the Dodgers making it to the World Series. In a statement on their website, they said,

As we continue the work of being God’s agents of love, justice and compassion in the world the challenges in front of us can seem endless. The gift of moments of respite — of recreation — of joy and of plain old entertainment — are ones to rejoice and be glad in. We give thanks for them not only for their own sake — but for the role they play in renewing and refreshing us for this ongoing vocation of turning the human race into the human family.

The church held a photo shoot in between their services. In her sermon, Rev. Sally Howard, said, “Today we give thanks for athletic excellence and for human bodies; for recreation and for joy and entertainment. We celebrate them for their own sake–and for the ways that God’s presence can shimmer through them.” The rest of her sermon can be found here.
