Presenting his Charge when commissioning Chalice assistants and other lay ministers who have just ended their training at the Diocesan Ministerial Training School in Accra, Most Rev. Dr. Justice O. Akrofi, Archbishop of the Church of the Province of West Africa and Bishop of Accra … reminded the graduates, that they have been honoured by their churches and they must therefore serve the church with dedication, helping to make the churches better that they met them .

Turning to the lay readers, he said their duty is to read and if they cannot read understandably, then they will not make any impact. They should therefore read through all lessons before going to church, even if they are not on roster. To the chalicists, he asked them to pray as they go to church to assist, so that there would be a breakthrough in their lives and in the lives of those they serve the wine to. Commenting on the attendance at the commissioning, Archbishop Akrofi observed that women outnumbered men, and also pointed out that women are in the majority among the graduands . He said this justifies the decision of the Diocese to ordain women into the priesthood. Sixty lay readers and Twenty Two chalice assistants were commissioned at the function.
