Rash of nativity scene thefts from churches–baby Jesus figures taken from many churches

Pranksters–or thieves–have taken figures of Jesus from 8 separate nativity scenes in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Trinity Episcopal Church, in Easton, PA, has asked that their Jesus–missing since Christmas Eve–be returned with no questions asked.

Spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, Jim Goodness, released a statement about how they are handling thefts from Catholic churches:

“It is a police matter. We’ve asked all the parishes to report it to police. It certainly is very distressing that is taking place at this time of year. Our hope is that this is nothing more than a prank. We are hoping police will find out who is doing this.”
